Differently abled but not Disabled any longer

Bringing Smiles Again and Again

It was a lovely July morning with a rain swept clean and fresh environment. The birds were soaring in the sky and even the masks could not hide the smiles of at least six differently abled persons for whom it was an important day today.

Bringing Smiles has been bringing smiles again and again to that section of persons amongst us who have to live with debility throughout their life. Debility, yes, but what if that becomes an ability with a little help? Today’s day of gratification saw these people getting tricycles, wheelchairs, smartphones, rations, among other things. Bringing Smiles team of do gooders, all fresh themselves on this beautiful July morning, were ready to welcome them with a light breakfast and return them with takeaway of “Big Smiles”. During the event, we strictly adhered to Govt guidelines, having scanned them for tempr, wore face masks and maintained social distances.

So let us meet today’s smiles:

Pappal Rajput is 30 yrs staying at Jhandewalan Extn in New Delhi. Suffering from both lower limbs with 74% disability. He plans to start a mobile vending kiosk of packaged goods and savouries along with face masks. He was given a tricycle fitted with a roof and a big GI box to store his supplies. A starter kit of branded   pouches of namkeen, chocolates, biscuits, rusks was provided to help him take off. He was also given dry rations for his family. A wristwatch was an added joy as well as blankets for the coming winter months for his family. He was provided 500 face masks as they are expected to be a hot selling item as people often forget to carry their masks when they step out of home.

Rajesh, 40 years, a cobbler by profession and holds a Vendor license. He was a happy recipient of a tricycle two years back. Unfortunately, it got stolen so Bringing Smiles stepped in again and provided him with another one to bring back his smile and confidence. He was also given dry rations and a wristwatch.

Sandeep is a young man of 28 years. Unfortunately, he is with an amputated left arm and leg. He was given a tricycle at the beginning of this year.  Today Bringing Smiles gave him the package full of materials for self-sustenance, replenished his dry rations and provided him 500 masks as an addition to sell in his neighbourhood.

Little Chitrance is just five and a half, but mentally challenged. Bringing Smiles provided a paediatric wheelchair for him which is a tremendous relief for him as well as his devoted mother who was also helped with dry rations.

Pankaj 15 & Devender 22 are young lads who are visually impaired. They were both provided Smartphones to help them reach out to the World they cannot see clearly. They stay in a hostel, and were given 10 Kg bags of Wheat and Rice for their hostel.

Bringing Smiles and all our smiling faces got a shot in the arm with the surprise visit of our Local Councillor Ms. Aarti Yadav and her husband Mr Anil Rao. She has promised to take up our issues related to Differently abled people with MCG officials and get us the necessary approvals.

Our Mentor Sh. Vijay Pahwa too was there to grace the occasion.

We thank all our contributors, well-wishers and volunteers for their contribution and support in making our  efforts at assisting disabled persons live a life of dignity and respect.
